Comedians are only hypocrites when they don't go for the joke.

The Cooper piece is a bank shot at, you guessed it, Walter Scott, but I figured everyone was sick of that subject.Amateur Reader (Tom)https://www.blogger.com/profile/13675275555757408496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3383938214852108244.post-5971944379557958792016-06-29T18:29:48.824-05:002016-06-29T18:29:48.824-05:00he was kind of hard on poor mr. cooper; i always ...he was kind of hard on poor mr. cooper; i always liked his novels and i read a bunch of them at one time... besides, according to that last cited para quote thingy, twain admired fantasy just like c did, so i see i bit of hypocrisy there...Mudpuddlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17194891656971454279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3383938214852108244.post-82640091677424223442016-06-29T09:03:13.724-05:002016-06-29T09:03:13.724-05:00It must have been interesting in the 1960s, when T...It must have been interesting in the 1960s, when Twain's unpublished works were finally published, in Letters from the Earth and The Devil's Racetrack and so on. But I don't know what the reaction was like.

The Library of America collections just put every piece in its chronological place, the unpublished writings mixed in with the magazine pieces, which is great, but I have to check the notes to see what exactly I am reading.Amateur Reader (Tom)https://www.blogger.com/profile/13675275555757408496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3383938214852108244.post-84088958285269070712016-06-29T08:21:58.657-05:002016-06-29T08:21:58.657-05:00My I offer a thesis without evidence? Even _Tom Sawyer_ has dark qualities. Perhaps there is a publishable paper lurking in that thesis for some young grad student. Better him or her than me. In any case, as almost always, I enjoyed reading and pondering your posting. Cheers!RTDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17113953356514605424noreply@blogger.com
